A lesson plan in Mathematics that targets the use of technology.
A lesson plan integrating both Science and Social Studies that targets the use of technology.
Principles of Secondary Education
This is a paper that discusses my "weaker strengths" as a teacher. I also discuss how I plan on improving them in this class.
This unit was on school law. I taught about Due Process and have included links to each portion of my lesson.
A paper that addresses the following question: In what ways does a teacher become an advocate for kids as compared to a teacher of the content?
This unit was on classroom management. I taught about the Gordon method of classroom management. Included below are links to the lesson plan, handout, homework, and reflection paper.
This unit was on current school issues. I taught about school violence and have included links to each portion of my lesson. This lesson also required the use of cooperative learning within the lesson.
Multicultural Nonsexist Education
This paper is the result of an activity that I did to better understand a microculture in society. It discusses the changes that have occurred in Postville, Iowa with respect to culture and results of these changes on education.
This unit was a cooperative assignment that took an issue of multicultural nonsexist education and incorporated it throughout many different subjects. What you will find here is my portion of this unit which is math related. Our focus was on discrimination based on gender and I chose to focus on differneces that arise when purchasing a vehicle.
Designing Computer-Assisted Instruction
Here is another software review that was done after reading about Hoffman & Lyons' "Evaluating Instructional Software" article. This review is of an interactive multimedia piece of software called "Hot Dog Stand: The Works."
This assignment is a project proposal of our final multimedia project. It includes all the criteria that is included in an actual Request For Proposal(RFP.) This was a collaborative effort among two other classmates and myself which produced a CD-ROM program that provides help in Mathematics Problem Solving in Middle-School children.
Applications of the Internet in Education
This paper is a discussion about what the Internet is, how it works, and how it might be useful in the classroom. It is opinion based and represents my Internet understanding before beginning discussions in this class.
This assignment involved doing web searches about our educational area and doing critiques on them. For all three sites, there is the search criteria we used to find the site and a short 1-2 paragraph synopsis about the site. The synopsis includes information about the quality of the content, special features, pros and cons of organization and design, and possibilities for effective use in a classroom situation.
This assignment was a "re-evaluating" of the sites we did previously for the first part of this assignment. I decided to re-evaluate three of my previous sites and evaluate two newer sites. This assignment takes place after we have learned more about webpage design and more information about evaluating sites and focuses on ways to improve the site and implement its use in the classroom.
This assignment is a review of three interactive programs that can be found on the internet. Each piece of software is placed into a fictitious classroom environment including grade level, subject area being studied, computer integration, possible student activities, and where in the Thomas & Boysen Taxonomy this program could be used. The web address of each site are also included as links.
This assignment is a review of an ongoing K-12 internet project. As a team of two we critiqued this site and based our class presentation of the site on every aspect of our in-class discussions. This involves consideration of linking structure, classroom integration, overall design, etc. This link has our hand-out, review, and a link to the web site containing our critiqued internet project.
Following is our final project for this class. I was to create an instructional Internet unit that shows my understanding of applications of the Internet in education and advanced uses of the technological process. It is a working example of using the Internet to make a better informed decision in the 2000 election for President and voting in an online election for students who are not old enough to vote in the regular election. It helps to inform the students about the election process, Political Parties, the candidates, and the platforms of both the candidates and their party.
